Monitor Network and Control bandwidth usage

Why Use network monitoring?

Network monitoring allows a company to find out how internet is being accessed by employees. Almost all internet activity can be monitored AND recorded —with BNS’ complete network monitoring solution.

Network Monitoring benefits:

Bandwith hogs.
Want to know who among your employees are spending the most time surfing web sites? Which employees chat the most? You can even ‘see’ the transcript of the chat conversation! Find out who is sending the most emails with attachments?

Latecomers and Idle workers.
Who is arriving to work late and leaving early? What times are they active? What times are they idle on the keyboard? What are my employees searching for on the Internet? Possible! These are just few of what our monitoring system solution has to offer, which level of detail is so precise that you can see what an employee does each and every second.

Prevent data leakage.
BNS network monitoring system lists the users that extract data from your network. Did they send out the mailing list? Did they copy sensitive information over to the thumb drive? Did they burn to CD or DVD or download to iPod your company’s proprietary information?

Network monitoring systems uncover Internet abuse,  improve office productivity, protect against leakages of confidential information. It highlights inappropriate activities by users that may expose a company such as yours to avoidable financial, legal and other preventable risks.

Network Monitoring: Storage Requirements

Each client generates approximately 15 meg per day of data based on a default (*) installation. You will need to determine the storage requirements based on the amount of captured data you want to keep “active” on the server.  Backups can be stored off-server to save space.

Assuming 500 users that have a client recorder installed with the default configuration, we would expect you to generate approximately 7.5 GB per day, 150 GB per month (20 business days).

*A Default installation is defined as defined as capturing the following: (each of the items below have additional capture options available when creating your deployment file.)

   1. Capturing all exchange Email and web Email without any attachments.
   2. Capturing all Web Site Visits
   3. Capturing all Chat and IM activity
   4. Capturing all Keystroke Activity
   5. Capturing all Application Activity
   6. Capturing all Network Activity
   7. Capturing all File Transfer Activity
   8. Capturing Document Tracking Activity of drive type CD/DVD, And Removable Drives.
   9. Screen Snapshot Capture once every 30 seconds in 4 bit gray scale – Using one monitor

The single largest data point is the screen snapshots.  The daily storage requirement can drop to as little as 2 – 3 meg per day should the snapshots be disabled and increase to as much as 100 meg or more should they be taken every few seconds in color with multiple monitors.  There are many options to configure the snapshots to get the correct settings.

For a 100-500 licenses, you will need:

Server with 2 dual core processors
2-4 Gigabytes memory
RAID 10 is recommended for  more than six months of storage and/or security of data
